About DavidAll assignments are welcome, editorial or photographic. Lifestyle subjects are a speciality: houses, architecture, design, and travel, also scientific subjects, and engineering. I'm a fan of innovative new products and especially enjoy meeting creative, positive people engaged in exciting new ventures. I have 20 years experience as a journalist. My current roles include:
After completing a BA degree in English and German at Victoria University, Wellington, I spent a couple of years traveling through Europe. I then completed a postgraduate journalism diploma at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch. In 1990, after working for Radio New Zealand News, I joined the BBC World Service in London, and Radio Deutsche Welle's English Service in Cologne, Germany. It was a fascinating time to be in Europe, just after the fall of the Berlin Wall. On returning to New Zealand, I joined The Press newspaper in Christchurch. I have written a wide range of features, news stories, and advertising features. My specialty has been real estate and domestic architecture. In 2005, I decided to take the plunge and go part-time at The Press, giving me the freedom to pursue new opportunities. I have won several awards from The Real Estate Institute of New Zealand (REINZ) for my real estate writing, including best portfolio, best single item, and finalist for best lifestyle portfolio. I speak fluent French and German, as well as smattering of other languages, and have friends and family around the world. With my wife, Alexandra, I love traveling and exploring new places, as well as getting into the great outdoors whenever possible and seeing and photographing New Zealand's fantastic scenery. We are so lucky to live here! Other interests include wine and food, tennis, skiing, and hiking (to wear off the wine and food), all sorts of books, art, and an even more eclectic range of international music.
